Travel Pin Map

After seeing all kinds of maps on Pinterest to mark your travels, I knew I wanted to find one or make one. The ones pictured above were definitely my favorites, but I really liked the idea of pinning the cities. And since at this point in time I have yet to travel outside of the U.S., I really wanted to show the cities I have been to, not just the states.

So I started on Pinterest, getting great ideas then went to one of the best websites ever... Etsy and found the shop: Swiftmaps. They have lots of amazing options, especially for the United States and World maps. I got the Laminated Contemporary United States Map for $19.95 + free shipping. It was 24x36, which was just the size I wanted. The reason I wanted the laminated was to help protect the paper and help it last longer.

Then I took it to Hobby Lobby where they mounted it on a foam board, rather than cork board, to make it lighter. Then they framed it and added a hanging wire. I cannot thank the lady who helped me enough, she was so friendly and was the one to suggest the foam vs. cork. I will admit I spent a little bit too much on the frame, but I was too excited to care. Ha, probably not the best way to go about projects like this. But I love the result, so I'm happy. And finally I found the Map Pins at Staples.

After getting up on my wall, I immediately started to pin the places I've been and hahaha after 20 years of road trips it's harder than one would think. Let me know what you think in the comments!
