Contrary to how many in society view the industry - fashion is art. And because of my unique fashion sense growing up, I thoroughly enjoyed the few fashion classes I took in college. I have been wanting to create this series for years... and well, finally decided to follow my gut. Hope you enjoy learning about the elements and principles of fashion design.

Harlowe MXM

Harlowe MXM

It is always a good time for a brunch with your girlfriends. Normally we have some sort of workshop and this time there was suppose to have a lady come and teach poses (you know arm on hip and duck faces are out), but she had to cancel last minute. But honestly, it was so nice to have a low key lunch together. Plus I got to carpool with another blogger from the Fort Worth area, so we got to chat a bunch on the way there and back.

Motions

Motions

Have you ever been in a season of life, where you are literally just going through the motions? For me, in the past six years, I have on and off been doing that. It is so hard to keep up the momentum and push though. But life just goes on, it does not matter who you are or what is going on in your life, there is no way of stopping it. So floating and drifting it is, but there is only so much of that one can do.

Top 6 #SCCon18 Takeaways

Last week I posted a quick recap of the Style Collective Conference in Raleigh, NC. I had way too much fun and learned so much; in fact I'm still trying to process everything! Exclusive Peek Into #SCCon18

Exclusive Peek Into #SCCon18

How does one describe an indescribable experience? Lol, obviously, it is pretty hard. But let me backup and start from the beginning. Last fall when I first heard about the upcoming conference, I knew from the few local Style Collective meetups I had gotten to attend, that it was something I did not want to miss. What I did not realize, months later, when I impulsively purchased the non-refundable ticket, was just how much it really was worth.

Balacia Bridal

Balacia Bridal

 Photos by Maddie B

Couple weeks ago, we got invited to a styled bridal shoot for Balacia. They wanted to get their current collection photographed, before the May launch of their next collection. And not going to lie, the dress, I got to wear was by far everyone's favorite! The sleeves were so different and the dress as a whole was very fairy tale like.

Five Years of Advice

Five Years of Advice

Oh my word y’all, I cannot believe this is the start of six years blogging. 💜  Crazy amounts of stuff has happened in the past five years. Word of advice for anyone just starting out - do not give up. It might take a while before anyone starts noticing and leaving comments, but in the end it is worth the effort.

A Year in Review

A Year in Review

Every yearly review post begins with something like this... "This past year has been great, but when so quickly." or "Wow, what a crazy year", or.... hahaha you get the picture. I think this has been one of the few years where the roller-coaster rides have been worth it. Can't say I loved every minute, but this has been the best year in a long time.

Christmas Miracles

Christmas Miracles

Alright, update time on my degree issue. If you read my recent post about how I ended up failing a class, which is a huge fault of mine, but also with several issues from the school. Anyway, you can read that here. So a little over a week after I got the news about not graduating and talked to the advisor, I got an email back from the dean of the COBA, but he also ended up calling my house and talking to my mom and then called my cell phone and was in the process of figuring out what we could do so I could move on and keep the job I had lined up.

Coming in Red Haute

Coming in Red Haute

Red - the color of apples, firetrucks (except in Ft. Worth, they are actually white), Valentines and the color of 2017 winter season. It's the perfect holiday color to wear as a bright statement. And it makes the perfect pop of color to any party outfit. Just think, you don't have to worry if you can't find big ticket items in your wardrobe. The bright red, looks amazing in fun accessories, such as purses, earrings, or a fun heel, so go digging and see if what you can find.

Life Unfolding

Life Unfolding

Never thought I'd be here. Rushing to talk to an other unhelpful advisor. Sitting in my car with tears streaming down my face or sitting at Craftwork, trying to not to cry anymore, while figuring out what to email the dean of the college of business (who's email I got from the secretary, not the advisor). Pieces of my life's puzzle that were not suppose to be there, now are getting smashed together, trying to make the picture a whole. It's these moments that one would ask “How did I get here?” and “What just happened?” I was planning for graduation and my next steps, now I’m still stuck in college loop again.  The year round class loop that was suppose to end forever, now seems like a broken record.

AMS's Spring/Summer '18 Launch

AMS's Spring/Summer '18 Launch

Dallas Market Center hosted designer Alexander Michael Snyder for his Spring/Summer 2018 collection earlier this month. If anyone is a Project Runway fan, than you should be familiar with this designer. No, he wasn't the winner, but was a top contender for the season, and was out, because of his sacrifice for his team. And for everyone's information, because it was a Mary Kay sponsored episode, where the winner would get $5,000 toward the start of their business, well because of he really shouldn't have lost, Mary Kay also gave him $5,000 too. (FYI, that is the exact amount Mary Kay Ash had to start her business up.)

High School Flash Back

High School Flash Back

With my college graduation looming close, I wanted to do a major flashback to my senior year of High School five years ago.

All I can say OMG I was cute! 😍 😋  But seriously wow I cannot believe that this was five years ago, it is one of those weird memories that does not seem that long ago, yet feels like ages and tons of stuff has happened. 😂  And wow look at how much I have changed!

Blue Velvet

Blue Velvet

This year thanks to my amazing customers, I earn the princess court of sales in Mary Kay and got to attend the Mary Kay Go-Give reception at seminar this year. It's not everyday you get to wear or attend a formal dinner and reception, so this was an amazing experience. It was kind of last minute, planning on two different formal outfits for the same week and this is one of them. Funny thing is, both ended up being a little bit on the retro side and I had to pick them up on my way to the start of the conference, it was a bit crazy to say the least.

30's Style Dress

30's Style Dress

"Among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars..." (the great gatsby)
Recently I've been loving all the retro and vintage style that are making a come back and love how they are similar, but more modern in design. It wasn't until I actually was wearing this black dress, that I noticed just how much it reminded me of a flapper dress. And I immediately pulled up this hair style on pinterest and voila - 1920 flapper.

Why Introverts Should Blog

Why Introverts Should Blog

I have always been told I was shy. Through different college classes and honestly just life, I have learned that firstly, you should not label people, because the more they are told something (i.e. shy), they more they become that. And secondly, I am not 'shy,' rather an introverted-extrovert, which means I love being around people and socializing, but it drains my energy and I need my own space to recharge and recover from an outing.

Dallas StyleCon

Dallas StyleCon

Last Saturday, StyleCon for the first time was in Dallas! Years past they have only had one even in Orange County, CA. Why Dallas? Who knows, but it definitely does make it more accessible to everyone in the entire DFW area (which is the size of Connecticut) Overall? I enjoyed it and getting to meet up with other bloggers and meet vendors, but there were some huge disappointments about it.

Checkmate

Checkmate

The whole blogger world is very different; most of the time you meet other bloggers because of their social media or blog and you might start to chat virtually. But it can be a little tricky to actually meet face-to-face with each other and that is one thing that Style Collective helps with. Regional leaders help to plan the events and coordinate the sponsors. To end the month and summer, the DFW area SC sisters had a blogger get-together at Seasons 52.
