These first five oils are definitely a must for every collection, they are on all the different lists and are the most all around usefully oils to have. Make sure your starter kit has at least these five in it.
Lemon - Helps support the immune system, cleanses, and helps purify the air.
Frankincense - Is one of the highly versatile in uses and benefits. Apply to the bottom of feet to promote feelings of relaxation and to balance mood. Add to moisturizer to help reduce the appearance of blemishes.
Lavender - Kind of the Swiss Army knife of essential oils, there are endless uses for lavender. Helps you to feel calm and relaxed, can improve your sleep.
Tea Tree (Melaleuca) - It is very purifying, and by diffusing it can encourage a sense of clarity and new awareness.
Peppermint - Helps settle an upset stomach or motion sickness, has a nice cooling sensation and can help sooth head tension. Can help you feel awake and motivate. A little goes a long way.
These three were the next "most listed" oils:
Eucalyptus - Add a drop to moisturizer and apply to skin for revitalizing benefits. Place one or two drops in your hand and inhale deeply to help clear your mind.
Roman Chamomile - Has a calming effect on the skin, mind, and body. Helps sooth the system of the body and support a healthy immune system.
Rosemary - Supports healthy respiratory function, healthy digestion and helps reduce nervous tension and occasional fatigue.
All four of these were given fairly good mentions on many lists:
Clary Sage - A soothing and calming oil. Add one or two drops to your pillow for a restful night's sleep. Combine with Roman Chamomile and add to bath water for a stress-relieving bath.
Helichrysum - One of the most precious oils. May help promote a healthy metabolism. Message into temples and back of neck for a soothing sensation.
Geranium - A common ingredient in skin care products - apply to skin after showering for a smoothing effect, or add a few drops to your shampoo or conditioner.
Clove - Promotes healthy teeth and gums. Powerful antioxidant properties.
Now while I clearly have more than ten essential oils listed on this post, the point is mainly that the first five listed are the 'main' starter pack and while it is so tempting to want them alllllll, the best way is to start off with several tried-and-true oils and then expand when you need a certain one or want to try a new one. Luckily, most starter kits that I have seen come with around ten 5ml bottles, usually including the top five and then five oils or blends (depending on the kit or company).
What other oils would you include on this list for newbies to essential oil world?
XOXO,
Suzanne Marie
