When to Clean Out Your Makeup

Everyone always talks about how mascara should be replaced rather frequently, but what about all the other stuff in your makeup drawer/bag? How often do we actually replace anything else in there, unless we use it up, break it,  or need a different shade. It is actually really important that we are replacing the main important makeup items, because as soon as they get opened they are exposed to anything and everything that is in the air.

Mascara - should be replaced every 3 months. Once it is open, oxygen affects the mascara and it starts to collect bacteria.

Eyeliner - Gel Eyeliners should be replaced every 3 months. Liquid or Pencil eyeliners should be replaced every 6 months.

Foundation - Unopened, can last 2 years, but once opened should be replaced every 6 months to a year. But if used everyday, probably will get used completely, before needing to get replaced.

Lipstick - Replace lipsticks after 2-3 years. Lip Glosses should be replaced after 6 months to a years (for the same reason for replacing mascara, you are dipping the brush in and out, allowing bacteria in the gloss). Do not share lip products, and dispose of them if they become dry or change color.

Concealer - Liquid concealers should be replaced after a year. Powder and sticks can last for 2 years. If changes color, it is expired.

Cheek Color - Powder should be replaced around 2 years. But cream cheek colors have shorter shelf life and lifespan is 1 year.

Powder - They should be kept in a cool, dry place, which means not in your bathroom. Pressed powder can last for 2 years and loose powder is good for up to 3 years.
