Spring Break 2016: Austin Bound! Part 2

Day two! Like I said last time, it was suppose to be raining all day, but we got super lucky and it was a little could and warm. First thing we did was visit the capital building. And omg, there's just so much to talk about, I mean it's made out of pink granite found here in Texas. Then it's almost 15 feet taller than the nation's capital building in D.C. (but it's not the tallest capital building). And the architecture and details, should make anyone just stare. I mean really, look below at the details just on the doors (on the hinges!).

The fun thing about the Texas State Capital, (don't know if other state capitals do this or what) is you get to explore it at your own pace, meaning you don't have to go on one of their guided tours.

Afterwards we started down S Congress St., just kind of exploring. A few blocks down, on W. 10th St. was a Catholic Church, so obviously we decided to go there for Church on Saturday for the Vigil Mass (Pictures in next post).

Now let me explain South Congress St. to you, the main focus is the State Capital Building, all of the skyscrapers and buildings frame the Capital. As you walk down, I think it's about 10 blocks to the bridge, over the Colorado River; which is the famous bat bridge. Then farther past the bridge is another little area full of coffee shops, cute little shops, and whatnot. Basically you can spend a lot of time right around S. Congress St, and I absolutely love this area.

Anyway, we went about nine blocks down to W. 2nd St. to the downtown Jo's Coffee Shop (the one with the mural is on the other side of the bridge), for lunch. I had an iced coffee and the Southwest Salad. Omg, it was the best salad ever!

Then after we made it back to our car, we headed over to the Hope Outdoor Gallery. It was very interesting, more Eva's style than mine. But it was very cool and ever-changing. Literally everyday people are out there spray painting. Don't really know the story about it, it almost looks like an abandoned building or something.

Finally, we went back to the other part of South Congress and omg, I loved it! There are all kinds of places to go and explore.

But seriously, you have to stop by Jo's coffee, at least once, and try either the Iced Turbo or Belgian Bomber. Okay, you are probably wondering what in the world those are, well the Iced Turbo is a concoction of coffee, espresso, hazelnut, chocolate and cream. And the Belgian Bomber is half an Iced Turbo and half cold-brew unsweetened coffee. Both are delicious!

On the way back to the hotel in San Marcos, it started poring down rain. Hahaha, luckily it stopped in the middle of the night.
